Welcome to Dog Tails
JUST LIKE HOME
Just like home, they have the run of our house and garden, sleep in their own beds, curl up on the sofa with us in the evening and play with their favourite toys. Our canine friends come back year on year as their owners know they enjoy their time with us so much and go home with their tails wagging happily.
Dog Tails Home Boarding is a great alternative to putting your dog(s) into kennels when you are away from home. We offer a child free quiet, loving home from home for your dog(s), where they will be fed, walked and fussed over whilst being looked after in our home and treated as part of the family
YOUR DOG'S CARE
We have over 20 years’ experience of owning our own dogs and looking after the dogs of friends and family.
We have a cocker spaniel and a Pekingese of our own and after requests from the friends of friends to look after their dogs, we decided to open our home officially to offer home boarding and now spend our time enjoying the variety of dogs that we look after for others.
We own our own enclosed private woodland (5.37 acres) and we primarily walk dogs in the wood, however we do occasionally go to other places with dogs who are trustworthy off lead.
FAMILIARISATION
Prior to booking with us, we ask all our clients to bring their dog(s) for a familiarisation visit and a trial night where they will need to complete a detailed questionnaire. This ensures that the dog(s) and their owners are comfortable with us and our home and lets us get to know the dog(s) to ensure that they will fit in to our home and that we know everything we need to ensure their happiness and safety whilst in our care.
WHAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU
AND YOUR DOG
All dogs must be micro-chipped and be up to date with their vaccinations, including kennel cough. Proof of both will be required before we can accept your booking. This is part of our licensing regulations.
We also require all dogs to be treated for worms, fleas and tics within the three days prior to the beginning of their stay with us.
All dogs must be house trained, non-destructive and non-aggressive and friendly.
We require all owners to complete and sign a detailed questionnaire about their dog (and to be honest in their answers), sign a veterinary release form and sign our terms and conditions. These can be downloaded from this site using the download application button on the contact us page.
You will need to provide all the food and treats that your dog(s) will require along with its bedding, bowls, leads and toys.
WHY CHOOSE US
-
Spacious House in Quiet Area
We have a spacious house in a quiet close, a good sized garden, fully enclosed by a brick wall topped with a sturdy fence and lockable gates. The garden has plenty of grass and a large patio (dogs can follow the sun or avoid it, depending on their preference) most of our flower beds are gravelled, which minimises digging.
-
Comfort
Our guests have the run of the downstairs of the house and garden, throughout the day. If your dog(s) are used to sleeping in your room at night and would struggle to sleep elsewhere, we can accommodate that, otherwise the dog(s) will sleep on their own beds downstairs.
Under normal circumstances we walk all our guests once a day primarily in our own private enclosed woodland unless more or less walks are required and agreed in advance.
-
Professional Memberships
We are members of the National Association of Pet Sitters & Dog Walkers.
Dog Care Professionals UK
International Society of Animal Professionals
-
Special Care of Pets
We can accommodate dogs who are of a social nature and happy to board with other dogs and are licensed to board up to 6 dogs at a time.
Prior to boarding dogs from different households together we will organise a meeting between the dogs to ensure they will be happy together and we always gain permission from all owners prior to mixing dogs from different families in this way.
-
Licenced, Insured & Qualified
We are licensed by Bournemouth Borough Council license no AAL 142727, are fully insured, have a diploma in Pet Sitting and Dog Walking, Dog First Aid, level 2 in Practical Dog Psychology and Behaviour, level 3 in Canine Behaviour Management, level 3 in Dog Training and are currently studying level 5 Applied Animal Behaviour (Canine).
We are registered with Ferndown Family Vets and if any dog becomes ill whilst in our care we will ensure he/she gets any treatment/care needed either from their own vet or from ours. Any costs for this will be payable by the owner and we recommend that the dogs are insured to cover vet fees.
SAFETY FIRST
Safety for all the dogs in our care is always paramount for us. We insist on vaccinations being up to date, to comply with our licensing regulations but also for the health of all the dogs in our care.
Our garden has a small brick wall all the way around topped with a high sturdy fence and our garden gates are kept locked.
Even if we have an Off-Lead Waiver form signed by our clients, we will only let dogs off the lead when we are confident they will return to us and the area is safe to do so.
We are not able to board or offer day care for any dogs or cross breeds of dogs on the dangerous dogs list.
Although Dog Tails Home Boarding endeavours to accommodate animals with special requirements, we may refuse any animal that is not suitable for our care. This may include Bitches in season or coming into season.

What Clients Are Saying ...
Our doggies love staying at Dog Tails Home Boarding as it's a real home from home. My Jack Russell needs reassurance and my Labrador puppy is very energetic so leaving them somewhere I trust is really important. They get plenty of love, care and exercise there, so I can relax and enjoy my holiday.
Dog Tails Home Boarding is a lovely, clean home for my doggies to stay. They post regular photos of them whilst I'm away so I can see they are having fun and are well cared for. It's such a relief to have a safe loving place for them to stay.

Lorna and Sean have looked after our dogs for their holidays for the last few years. It's been fantastic knowing that they are enjoying their time away from us in a happy home environment. Both dogs have had to have particular diets which they've been happy to accommodate along with the dogs usual walking routine. Our terrier is not happy around unfamiliar dogs but Sean and Lorna have been very understanding and have made sure that she is walked at very quiet times of the day.

Dog Tails Home Boarding has been like a second home to my Black Labrador - she always comes home happy and suitably tired! Brilliant communication, flexible, safe, meet all requirements and are very reasonable for the care and attention each dog receives.
Would recommend Dog Tails Home Boarding to anyone!

Thank you Lorna Trent... for looking after Lottie... we thought she would wet herself when she saw us again... but NO... she had such a wonderful time with you - she did not want to come home. You enabled David and I to have a wonderful Mini Break - away from our usual routine etc... Would I recommend you??? I have no hesitation whatsoever... 100%. I will be introducing you to friends xxx
